FREUD'S LAST SESSION

Two of the greatest minds of the 20th century spar off on society's most debated topics in Freud's Last Session, which is making its regional debut at Ensemble Theatre. Set in 1939 England, the play features Dr. Sigmund Freud and author C.S. Lewis conversing in Freud's office just at the start of World War II.

Portrayed by Barry Mulholland (Freud) and Bruce Cromer (Lewis), the two intellects are recreated exactly how I imagined they were, both in behavior and appearance. What a challenge it must have been to craft oneself into Freud and Lewis, but Mulholland and Cromer did it flawlessly. Complimented by the elegant, period set, the audience was transported to be a fly on the wall for one of the most intense conversations of the time.

What starts off as a heavy discussion turns to compassion as the air raid sirens signal England's declaration of war with the Nazis. Freud and Lewis continue their debate with a more personable nature as they learn details of each others' lives. Love, sex, life, and God are all topics on the table as the two boldly address the world's most wondered about theories.
