FISH FRY #4: ALL SAINTS PARISH

Reaching our halfway point through our 2013 tour of Friday Fish Fries, we discovered a treasure trove of deliciousness at All Saints Parish in Kenwood. Talk of their fish tacos and sweet potato fries piqued our group's interest, and what we found was an amazing entree and so much more.

With a minimal line at the door, we thought we picked a dud. Not true. All Saints' setup was just very efficient, as they cranked out orders methodically. The masses were already in the gymnasium indulging in their meals, and soon, we would be too.

There was even a bagpipe player!

The fish tacos lived up to their hype: two thick fried Cod fillets topped with cheese, cilantro, diced tomato, and spicy coleslaw, then wrapped in a warm flour tortilla. It came with a side of chips and salsa, plus I added an order of the perfectly crisp sweet potato fries. We were pleasantly surprised to find beer and wine offered, as it wasn't noted on the website. Even better: they had two kegs of Mt. Carmel beer! Craft beer at a fish fry - that sealed the deal. Five-out-of-five fishies for All Saints Parish!

In addition to the mmmm-mazing fish tacos, the menu offered up a traditional fried Cod dinner, as well as baked Salmon and Tilapia. The salmon was very fresh and tasted great when topped with mild salsa. The cod and tilapia left something to be desired; just an average taste.

We also discovered the first grade bake sale which offered and assortment of homemade cakes, cupcakes and pies. While the moms manned the booth, adorable, pony-tailed little girls roamed the tables of the fish fry with boxes of goodies, selling to folks like 5chw4r7z who is a sucker for such cuteness.

My adoration fell not with the girls, but with one of the mothers. Two of the outstanding desserts we purchased were baked by Alex: an Irish Car Bomb cupcake made with 18-year-old whiskey, and a brownie with chocolate chip cookie crust, stuffed with Oreos.

Yes, you read that correct. Our whole table each bought the rich Irish Car Bomb cupcake, and some of us packed away the heavyweight brownie to snack on later. Five-out-of-five fishies for the desserts!

You know its a good fish fry when you're parting gifts are a
Mt. Carmel pint glass and a Chocolate Chip Oreo Brownie.
